South African National Parks (SANParks) is currently recruiting TWO (2) Research Assistants for a permanent position based at Skukuza, Kruger National Park.

Kruger National Park – Skukuza

🎓 Minimum Requirements

To qualify, you should meet most of the following:

✔ Grade 12 Certificate (additional relevant qualifications are an advantage)
✔ Strong English communication skills (reading & writing)
✔ Valid SAPS firearm competency certificate
✔ Firearm proficiency for a manually operated rifle (Unit Standard 123519)
✔ Understanding of veld firefighting
✔ Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate
✔ 2–5 years’ experience as a game guard, research assistant, or field ranger (Big Five reserve experience is a BIG plus)
✔ Ability to work independently
✔ Basic computer skills (advantage)
✔ GPS knowledge (advantage)
✔ Valid driver’s license (advantage)

⚠️ Important: A shooting exercise forms part of the selection process.

🧭 Key Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant, you will:

🔸 Guard and guide researchers during fieldwork in dangerous wildlife areas
🔸 Assist with prescribed and experimental burns
🔸 Conduct vegetation condition assessments
🔸 Maintain research sites, equipment, and infrastructure
🔸 Collect, download, and capture monitoring data
🔸 Help keep offices, camps, storerooms, and gardens neat and functional

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, teamwork, and conservation science.
