The Department of Health is currently recruiting a Medical Technician (Grade 1 or Grade 2) for the FPS Johannesburg Laboratory. If you are passionate about laboratory science, forensic services, and career growth, this role is for you.

💰 Salary Package

  • Grade 1: R269,106.00 per annum (plus benefits)

  • Grade 2: R313,800.00 per annum (plus benefits)

✅ Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must have:

  • A Certificate in Medical Technician (Histopathology Technique)

  • Current registration with HPCSA

  • Grade 1: No experience required

  • Grade 2: Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience

  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)

  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and in a team

  • Valid driver’s licence (optional)

🧪 Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive and log forensic samples while maintaining chain of custody

  • Perform laboratory analysis: processing, embedding, microtomy & staining

  • Conduct special stains and frozen sections

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and quality assurance standards

  • Prepare reagents and manage stock

  • Participate in document control and student training

  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations
