# **How to Replace Your Matric Certificate & Combine Results in South Africa**

 


Losing or damaging your matric certificate can be stressful, but replacing it is a straightforward process. Similarly, if you wrote matric in multiple sittings and need to combine your results for a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC), you must apply for a **Replacement Certificate: Change of Status**.

## **Lost or Damaged Matric Certificate: How to Get a Replacement**  


If your matric certificate is **lost, stolen, or damaged**, you must visit your nearest **GDE District Office** with the following documents:  


✔ **Original Identity Document (ID) and a certified copy**  

✔ **An affidavit** stating whether your certificate is lost or damaged  

✔ **The original damaged certificate** (if applicable)  

✔ **Payment of R170** in cash at the GDE District Office  

✔ **Optional:** You may request a **Statement of Results** for **R60** while waiting for your replacement certificate  


### **How Long Does It Take?**  

- If your records are on the system, your **replacement matric certificate will take 4 to 6 weeks** to be issued.  

- If your records are not on the system, it will take **longer**, as the GDE must retrieve them from the archives before issuing a certificate.  

- Your **statement of results is available immediately** upon request.

If you wrote your **matric in multiple examination sittings** and want to combine your results for a **National Certificate (NSC or SC)**, you need to apply for a **Replacement Certificate: Change of Status**.
