Barberton Mines (Pty) Limited, a leading mining company in South Africa, is currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Security Operational Officer to join our team. ### **Purpose of the Job:**
The Security Operational Officer will be responsible for overseeing specialized security staff, resources, and processes to protect Barberton Mines from both high and low-security risks. This includes mitigating threats such as armed attacks, intrusions, day-to-day security concerns, and addressing potential security vulnerabilities. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the company's operations.
### **Minimum Requirements:**
- **Matric/Grade 12 Certificate**
- **Degree/Diploma** in policing, security, military studies, or business management (advantageous)
- **Specialized training** in policing, security, or military environments (advantageous)
- **PSIRA Grade A registered** (if not registered, must obtain within 1 month of employment)
- **Minimum of 5 years' experience** in security, law enforcement, or military environments
- **Experience in planning, managing, and executing security/law enforcement operations** (5+ years required)
- **Experience in mining and mining operations** from a security perspective is advantageous
- **Training experience** in high-risk security/law enforcement is advantageous
- **Experience in intelligence management** is advantageous
- Working knowledge of the **Firearms Act** (must have firearm competency for business purposes; can be completed after appointment if employed in government security structures)
- **Staff management experience**
- Proficiency in **Microsoft Office Suite** (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- **Strong leadership and organizational skills**, along with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- **Polygraph examination** required before employment and regularly thereafter
- **No criminal record** (Police clearance certificate is required if available)
- **Valid driver’s license** with reliable transport
- Must be between **30 and 45 years old**
- **Valid certificate of physical fitness**
### **Key Responsibilities:**
- Oversee allocated areas and ensure all contractual security requirements are met
- Supervise security officers to ensure tactical proficiency
- Plan, manage, and execute high-risk security operations
- Evaluate service levels and recommend improvements as necessary
- General management and supervision of specialized security staff to ensure consistent performance
- Handle various administrative tasks
- Liaise with management and relevant third-party security providers daily
- Address HR-related queries and formulate disciplinary actions as necessary
- Submit weekly/monthly incident reports to management
- Investigate incidents and provide detailed reports
- Proactively plan security measures for various sites and mining processes
- Manage operations both on the mountain and underground
