**Merrifield Preparatory School and College: School Counsellor & Learning Support Co-ordinator Position**

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young learners? Merrifield Preparatory School and College, located in East London, South Africa, is seeking a dedicated **School Counsellor & Learning Support Co-ordinator** to join our team in Term 2 of 2025. This full-time role spans both the Preparatory School and College, offering a unique opportunity to work with learners from Grade 000 to Grade 12.  

### **Key Responsibilities**  

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing support to students, parents, and teachers. Responsibilities include:  

1. **Therapeutic Support**  

   - Providing short to medium-term individual therapeutic interventions for learners from Grade 000 to 12.  

2. **Teacher Consultations**  

   - Collaborating with teachers to offer in-classroom support and guidance.  

3. **Parent Consultations**  

   - Conducting therapeutic and/or assessment intake and feedback sessions with parents.  

4. **Team Coordination**  

   - Managing and coordinating the learning support team, including professionals such as:  

     - Remedial Therapists  

     - Speech and Language Therapists  

     - Occupational Therapists  

5. **Workshop Facilitation**  

   - Organizing and facilitating relevant and inspiring workshops for parents, staff, and students.  

### **What We’re Looking For**  

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:  

- A recognized qualification in counselling, psychology, or social work.  

- Registration as a practitioner with **HPCSA** or **SACSSP**.  

- A minimum of three years' experience in a counselling role, preferably within a school environment.  

- Understanding of the **IEB accommodation process** and familiarity with social and cognitive assessment tools.  

- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations related to counselling and social services.  

- Expertise in identifying and supporting learners with learning difficulties in the classroom.  

- Experience implementing learning accommodations to enhance student success.
