### **About Robben Island Museum**
Robben Island Museum, located at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, is a world-renowned heritage site. The island is a symbol of the triumph of the human spirit, offering visitors a deep understanding of its historical, political, and natural significance.
### **Position: General Tour Guide (7 Vacancies)**
- **Salary:** R16,613.95 per month
- **Contract Duration:** 3 months
- **Location:** Robben Island, Cape Town
### **Key Responsibilities:**
As a General Tour Guide, you will:
- Conduct research and curate engaging stories that showcase Robben Island's:
- Political history
- Marine history
- Architectural and building history
- Geographical and natural environment information
- Prepare and manage tour logistics, including verifying vehicles, drivers, and equipment.
- Welcome tourists at the harbour, assess their needs, and provide necessary arrangements like wheelchairs or prams.
- Acquaint visitors with the tour structure, rules, and amenities.
- Lead tours, sharing detailed and captivating information about the island’s diverse history and environment.
- Coordinate stops and ensure smooth transitions during the tour.
- Conclude tours by handing over tourists to Prison Guides.
- Stay informed by researching Robben Island’s history through various media and participating in training sessions.
- Update and design tour content to ensure relevance and accuracy.
- Perform general administrative duties.
### **Requirements:**
- Registered Tour Guide certification.
- Diploma/Degree in Tourism, History, Social Science, or a related field.
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Fluency in English and at least one other official South African language.
- Knowledge of South African and global political history.
- Understanding of environmental heritage and tourism.
- Fluency in a foreign language (advantageous).
