### Job Summary: Special Assistant to the Regional Director
As the **Special Assistant**, you will support the Regional Director in managing workflows, handling administrative tasks, and assisting with special projects that advance the Ford Foundation’s mission. You’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining the cohesion and efficiency of our Johannesburg office while collaborating closely with a network of peers across global philanthropic, government, and corporate sectors.
#### Key Responsibilities:
**1. Administrative Support**
- Manage the Regional Director's calendar, travel arrangements, and expense reports.
- Prepare itineraries and meeting materials for external visitors.
- Partner with the Regional Director to synthesize and follow up on key action items from meetings.
- Serve as a liaison to consultants on special projects.
- Act as an ambassador for the Ford Foundation in various external settings, especially with other philanthropic organizations.
- Collaborate with administrative teams to coordinate workflows and provide coverage when needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely responses to general inquiries, ensuring correspondence records are updated.
**2. Programmatic Support**
- Provide support during the Regional Director's program-related activities, which may include attending grantee meetings, conferences, and convenings.
- Coordinate with the Communications Office on materials related to the Regional Director’s office.
- Manage special assignments from the Regional Director, staying updated on operational and political landscapes.
- Build and maintain a database of thought leaders for potential collaborations.
- Serve on the Good Neighbor Committee as a member and grantmaker, aligning with the Foundation’s social responsibility commitments.
### Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- **4+ years** of experience in an administrative or operational role supporting senior executives.
- A **bachelor’s degree** or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Proven ability to work effectively within global and diverse environments.
- Strong **project management** skills with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- A work ethic that aligns with the Ford Foundation’s culture and values.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Fluency in an additional language besides English.
