**Salary:** R14,751.97 – R19,914.21 per month

## **Job Purpose**  

As an Animal Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily care and well-being of carnivorous animals. This includes feeding, cleaning enclosures, monitoring animal behavior, and assisting with health care procedures.

## **Key Responsibilities**  

### **Animal Care and Maintenance**  

- Follow animal care procedures as outlined in the animal husbandry manual.  

- Prepare and serve food as per diet sheets; remove leftovers promptly.  

- Assist in restraining and handling animals as needed.  

- Monitor the general health and behavior of animals and report abnormalities.  

### **Enclosure and Equipment Management**  

- Clean and disinfect enclosures, tools, and equipment.  

- Monitor electric fences and address safety concerns to prevent animal escapes.  

- Ensure enclosures are safe, secure, and meet animal welfare standards.  

### **Health and Enrichment**  

- Assist veterinarians and nurses with treatments and medication administration.  

- Participate in hand-rearing of newborn animals and animal training.  

- Create enrichment activities to stimulate natural behaviors.  

### **Data and Reporting**  

- Record daily observations, including feeding, waste removal, and animal behavior.  

- Contribute to updates in the animal husbandry manual.  

### **Education and Conservation**  

- Participate in environmental awareness programs and conservation projects.  

- Assist with research by collecting and sharing observation data.

## **Minimum Requirements**  

- **Education:** Matric/Grade 12 certificate.  

- **Experience:** Prior experience in animal care or a related zoo role.  

- **Additional Training:** Certificate in animal care, management, or a related field is an advantage.

## **Skills and Competencies**  

- Knowledge of animal husbandry, enrichment, and SHEQ standards.  

- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.  

- Physical fitness and attention to detail.  

- Familiarity with JCPZ policies and international zoo guidelines (WAZA, PAAZA).

## **Working Conditions**  

The Zoo operates year-round, including weekends. Employees must be flexible and willing to work during public holidays and weekends.
